Case 03 / 18
Livesign

The challenge
Signing a mortgage or loan contract is a big moment for a customer and a heavily regulated one for a lender. Livesign needed to move the whole process online, including verifying the signer's identity, without it feeling risky or complicated to someone who might only ever use it once. It also had to earn the trust of major financial institutions before they would put their own customers through it.

My role
I was the designer on Livesign from the first concept to the latest release, owning the brand, the end to end product experience and every piece of collateral around it.
I sat between the head of product, several marketing managers and a development team of three to four. Balancing product priorities with marketing goals was a constant part of the role, and I regularly worked through technical constraints with the developers, contributing to the front end build where it made sense. I also briefed and oversaw the work of a junior designer.

A brand built for trust
I created the identity from scratch: logo, colour palette and type system. It had to do two jobs at once. To a bank it needed to look secure, capable and professional. To a first time signer it needed to feel calm and easy. Locking the visual language down early meant that once flows were agreed, we could move straight into high fidelity design and keep build moving quickly.

Marketing website
The marketing site gave the brand room to stretch, with bolder type, illustration and photography. That freed the product itself to stay quieter and more formal, which suits a tool people use to sign legal documents.

Designing the signing journey
The core of the product is a guided flow that takes a signer from invitation to identity check to a signed contract. My focus was reducing anxiety at every step: one task per screen, plain language instead of legal language, and clear feedback on what happens next.
Explaining a complex product with video
Video became one of our most useful tools for explaining Livesign to clients and signers. I storyboarded and scripted the explainer from scratch, sourced the footage, then edited it and built the animations myself.
Everything around the product
A SaaS platform needs far more than screens. Alongside the app I produced explainer animations, user guides, promotional videos and sales collateral, all from the same system.
